For many beginning and even intermediate metalsmiths', and those aspiring to the art, the use of the rolling mill is often a fear too big to take on without a mentor or guide. Thus, the creative process is limited to prefabricated metals sourced from third party suppliers. This default choice can unwittingly short change the artist, in Jay's view, as the creative process inherits the limitations of not working with silver in an unformed and or "raw" state of artistic potential.
